These containers are fully airconditioned (freezing inside actually) and fully functional with their own electric generating motors. If you look to the left hand side of the containers you can also see the antenna mast.
I have been on many sites like these in several different countries but the first time I worked on such sites was back in the very early nineties when Ericsson UK ran a project called the ERP (Emergency Restoration Project). I was one of the commissioning engineers bringing them into a service ready state.
In the ERP project there were several different types of Ericsson BYB202 AXE10 switches such as Signalling Transfer Point (STP) or Remote Subscriber Stage (RSS) with each configured for a specific role and shoehorned into the stainless steel container.
